Results of Silicone Intubation of the Lacrimal Drainage System

Abstract
We performed 20 intubations with silicone tube for nasolacrimal duct obstruction in which nasolacrimal probings had failed.
Success rate of silicone intubation in congenital dacryostenosis and nasolacrimal duct obstruction was 85%.
Twenty percent of patients had complications such as dacryocysititis and displacement of distal end of tube into lacrimal sac.
In congenital dacryostenosis and partial nasolacrimal duct obstruction, Silicone intubation might be advocated as a conservative alternative to dacryocystorhinostomy.
